The “Mainstreaming Innovations for Sustainable Preparedness (MISP), A wholistic approach designed to mitigate the impacts of various hazards in the municipality. The project is institutionally supported with local law guidance and community endorsement. Key initiatives under MISP include:
1. The Pre-Marriage Disaster Orientation: Held every Friday for marriage license applicants via the Municipal DRRM Office, is an initiative established by Municipal Ordinance No. 3, 2013. Its goal is to integrate disaster risk reduction and management principles into community practices.
2. Orientations, Drills, and Simulation Exercises: Implemented in coastal barangays to capacitate residents and enforce pre-emptive evacuation measures before calamities occur.
3. Fruit Tree and Bamboo Seedlings Nursery: The establishment of a nursery for seedlings, including regular tree-growing activities, supports climate change mitigation. Free distribution of seedlings to individuals, associations, farmers, and students encourages tree-planting efforts.
4. Relocation of Displaced Residents: Utilizing 5% calamity funds, the MDRRMO purchased a one-hectare lot for the relocation of residents displaced from Brgy. Caroan. Seven families have already been relocated to this site.
5. Provision of Handpumps: To address water needs during natural calamities, the MDRRMO provides handpumps to be installed in households. This program not only ensures water access during emergencies but also addresses gender issues, benefiting women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDS), and senior citizens responsible for household water provision.
